Why trust these picks

By Marcus Cole

I put these picks together by researching product specs, reading customer reviews, and checking return policies and airline rules such as carry-on size and battery limits. This is a research-based list, not a lab test. Links may earn me a commission at no extra cost to you.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday bring a wave of sales on travel gear, but deal week also makes it easy to buy something you do not need because a banner says it is a deal. This is the short list I am watching for 2026, grouped by budget, plus four quick checks to tell a real deal from a fake one.

Prices change constantly during deal week, so I have not listed any here. Click through to see today's price, and check the price history before you buy.

How to tell if a deal is real

  1. Check the price history. Use a price tracker, or the price history some product pages show, to see what the item sold for over the last few months. If today's price is the same as it was in September, it is not a Black Friday deal.
  2. Compare the exact model. Some deal listings are older versions or bundles with a different model number. Make sure the item on sale is the one you actually researched.
  3. Buy what you would buy anyway. A discount on something you will not use is not savings. Start from your list, not from the deals page.
  4. Read the return window. Some retailers extend return windows for holiday purchases, but check the listing before you assume.

Under-the-tree basics

These are small, practical things that are useful on almost any trip. They make good stocking stuffers and easy add-ons.

On pricier items, even a modest percentage discount adds up, so these are worth watching closely.

Flying for the holidays?

Holiday travel can mean crowded airports and delays. If a flight goes wrong, rebook first and keep your receipts. If your trip includes a flight departing the EU, or arriving in the EU on an EU airline, you may be owed compensation for a long delay or a late cancellation. You can enter your flight in the AirHelp claim check to see if it may qualify. AirHelp charges a fee only if your claim succeeds, and not every flight qualifies. For the full rules, read What to Do When Your Flight Is Delayed or Canceled.

Bottom line

Make your list first, check the price history, and buy the things you or the traveler in your life will actually use. The basics are easy wins, and the big-ticket items are where a real discount matters most.
